As we near the remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the peace he symbolizes, there are many events you may be interested in participating in this coming week. Next Monday, Jan 18th, many kids have off from school in observance of MKL Day. Here are some events to attend in this week’s edition of Local Things to Do Around Atlanta.

MLK Celebration at Georgia Tech from 1/13 to 1/28 at the Ferst Center for the Arts. With guest speakers and remembrance of Dr. King’s speeches and peaceful way, it will be difficult to not attend all the events. In the mood for some live music? Fridays & Saturdays are hopping in Marietta Square are both Johnnie McKracken’s and Hemingway’s. You can start your Saturday enjoying the Square’s shops, fountain, and play train with kids then have dinner & hear a little music in the evening.

If you have this weekend open and want to go on a family activity, how about going to the Monarch Park Butterfly Garden in Marietta at Kennesaw Ave & Maple Avenue? This 1/4 acre park is open year round with hundreds of butterflies you can up close in addition to lush plants and flower garden paths.
